Aside from working diligently for the New Providence Alliance, Tara’s interest in her community, especially in the many programs that serve our youth, is reflected in her work in the New Providence Boosters Club and the Crestview Swim and Tennis Club.

The New Providence Alliance started this year with a new chairperson and coordinator. We added a co-chair and replaced the coordinator due to unforeseen circumstances. Along with all of that, the New Providence Alliance also lost several members this year. Tara Smith has been a stabilizing force on the committee, picking up task after task, helping in seemingly every event we have.  She never hesitates to volunteer when someone needs help, she fills in for the Secretary when the secretary is unable to make a meeting, she helps every other member of the committee in any way that is needed. She will lead an event or get her hands dirty and help with the smallest details. She looks at what we need and she steps up and fills the need. Most importantly for us this year, our biggest event of the year, Every 15 Minutes, was in need of someone to run the event. I am sure that many people in this room know that this is a major undertaking, with numerous moving parts. She stepped in without experience and has done a fantastic job in ensuring all the details are covered. She is making this work with new police liaisons and a new videographer/editor. The transition looks to be seamless when it comes up at each meeting. That is what Tara does. She sees a need and fills the void. This void was huge and from the outside, you would never know anything changed.

It is with great pleasure and my honor to present the 2019 New Providence Municipal Alliance Volunteer of the Year Award to Tara Smith.”
