We want to provide an update on modified municipal operations resulting from the COVID 19 virus. Beginning today, Thursday, March 19th the municipal center will be closed to the public. Anyone requiring municipal services is urged to visit our web-site www.newprov.org to determine if the assistance you need can be accomplished through one of our on-line services. Tax payments as well as many permits and licenses can be obtained through our web-site. Our employees are still working and will assist with essential services. You are welcome to contact us through the web-site using the Contact Us forms or you can call our offices at 908-665-1400. Follow the telephone prompts to reach our various departments.

Beginning today, all playgrounds in the borough are closed. Parks and fields will remain open but no organized sports activities are permitted. CDC guidelines suggest that social distancing is critical to reducing the spread of the virus. Organized sports activities are contrary to that guidance and are therefore prohibited. The basketball courts at the community pool are closed – the tennis courts remain open.

The Borough is implementing a program to provide daily telephone calls to our senior residents. Through our senior center, which is closed to the public, phone calls are being made to the 400 plus members to determine whether they need any special assistance. Additionally, we hope this will eliminate feelings of isolation among our home-bound senior population. If you are a senior or know someone who might benefit from this service, you are urged to contact us to participate in this program. Please call 665-0046 or send an email to seniorbuddies@newprov.org .

Until these restrictions are lifted required borough meetings will be conducted telephonically. For example, the council meeting scheduled for Monday night will be held in the council chambers with the Mayor and certain officials present at that location. The public may attend the meeting at the scheduled time. However, If you attend the meeting, please assure that you leave sufficient space between you and others attending. The meetings will continue to be videotaped and published on our web-site and TV 35/37.

Our business community is being significantly impacted by this situation. Our restaurants and dining establishments remain open for take-out orders and many are providing delivery services. Other businesses are providing online and customized services. They are eager to assist you. As this is an ever- changing situation, please call the local establishments to see what services they are providing before you visit them.

Finally, this is an evolving situation and the information and guidance that we receive from our Federal, State, County and Board of health officials changes daily. We have and will continue to publish information on our web-site on the Home page under Special Notices and on our Coronavirus Updates and Information page. This information is also posted on Facebook and twitter at Newprovnj. Please check theses resources regularly or feel free to call us for the latest information. By following the CDC guidelines and working together we can help to flatten the curve and bring life back to normal. As always your cooperation and support is greatly appreciated.
