Torrential rain could not stop New Providence Scout Troop 63 from participating in the annual Klondike Derby held in the Watchung Reservation on Saturday, January 25. The reigning champs returned with their title on the line in a competition of endurance and survival skills. Unfortunately, the difficult conditions caused by the heavy rain presented problems for the young patrol, especially when it came to lighting a fire to cook their lunch. In a competition where several patrols did not finish, Troop 63 placed 4th. Troop Scoutmaster Bill Dreitlein said Troop 63's patrol "endured a tremendously difficult day of rain and mud. It makes me very proud as a scout leader and a parent to witness the determination and perseverance that these scouts demonstrated in finishing what they started."
Troop 63 believes in keeping the out in outdoors. The troop camps every month except January and August. Any potential scout looking to join Troop 63 can reach out to Rob Muñoz at email@example.com for more information.
