MORRISTOWN, NJ - Arden Courts of Whippany showers Morristown Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room staff with some early summer lovin' on Monday by sponsoring a Kona Ice Cream truck for the healthcare workers.

As the healthcare workers lined up outside the Emergency Room, they enjoyed the summer tropical sound of steel drum music while they were served piña colada, mango, and cotton candy flavored ice [to name a few favorites].

"We are so spoiled, everyone is reaching out beyond belief," said a Morristown Memorial Medical Center healthcare worker. "We also have families that are so appreciative."

The frontline healthcare workers are loved! As you drive up to the front entrance of the hospital, you see large banners and signs of appreciation for the frontline healthcare heroes -- #CaringTogether. On the sidewalk outside the Emergency Room doors were thank you notes written in chalk from the different communities the hospital serves. Since the onset of the pandemic, the hospital has seen constant appreciation through donations of meals and PPE equipment; heartfelt thank you notes; -- and first responder vehicle parades of thanks and clap outs.

On her commute home to the Pocono Mountains, Memory Care Advisor, Andi Cohn-Morris, dreamed of summer days and warmer weather. Cohn-Morris, along with her team at Arden Courts, have been considering ways to serve the healthcare community of Morristown, especially for Nursing Week 2020 which is May 10-16, 2020.

“I wanted to bring some sunshine to the healthcare workers I know and love," said Cohn-Morris. "We work closely with Morristown Memorial Medical Center, and I miss seeing my colleagues. We often call, but I wanted to offer a small gesture of 'normal.' To me, an ice cream truck is the perfect symbol of better, warmer days. ‘Nurses week’ this year feels different, I think we’ve collectively realized every week should be healthcare week.”

She contacted the Morristown Medical Center Emergency Department to make this summer day dream a reality. Charlene Welsh, Clinical Nurse Coordinator, was thrilled to hear that Arden Courts of Whippany and Kona Ice wanted to bring this sweet gesture to their healthcare heroes for Nurses Week!

Kona Ice is a family-owned business since 2012. They operate in Central Morris County. They offer flavors that are allergen friendly (nuts, gluten, soy, eggs, shellfish) and Kosher-certified. They care deeply about the communities they serve and have donated over $37,000. Partnering with Arden Courts of Whippany, Kona Ice generously agreed to donate the ice cream because Arden Courts would be supporting their local, family business during this difficult time. It was a perfect match!
