NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Mayor Al Morgan released the following message of the COVID-19 related deaths in New Providence:
It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart to have to report the loss of two of our residents. We were awaiting confirmation if these deaths were COVID-19 related. This is so heartbreaking for our community, and we mourn with the families who have lost a loved one. It is a sad day for all of us here in New Providence.
Yesterday there were also reports of social gatherings that not only put our community at great risk, our police need to be able to help in emergencies, and not continually having to police non-compliances. Parents please talk to your children, teens, and young adults. Social distancing is imperative and will be enforced.
This virus can strike anyone, anywhere, and now the end result has hit home. Please immediately report gatherings to the police at (908)665-1111. Only call 911 in the event of an emergency.
Out of respect for our lost residents, I ask that we each please take a moment to say a prayer for them, for their families, and for our community. For the rest of today, I will only be putting out emergency notices if necessary. Please continue to stay strong and to stay positive. We will get through this.
