CHATHAM, NJ - Phil Crosson Jr., who has been a member of the Chatham Borough Police Department since 1992, retired from his position as the police chief on Feb. 1.
"It came on pretty quickly," Crosson said when reached by phone on Sunday. "I was on vacation for six weeks and I bought a business. I came back for one day and retired."
According to Crosson, captain Brian Gibbons is the acting commander of the Chatham Borough Police Department.
Crosson began his tenure with the Chatham Borough Police Department 25 years ago as a dispatcher and was sworn in as a police officer in 1995.
In 2003, Crosson was promoted to detective sergeant and, later that year was promoted to lieutenant and then patrol division commander. Crosson became the acting police chief in 2009 and was sworn in as Chatham Borough's eighth Chief of Police in April, 2010.
