NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The Borough Council appointed Stephen Drown as Lieutenant in the New Providence Police Department at its Monday, Nov. 26 meeting. His annual salary rate will be $133,899.02.
With regard to other news the council had a second reading and public hearing on an ordinance reducing the 45/mph speed limit to 40/mph on Mountain Avenue between the Diamond Hill-Union Avenue intersection and the Glenside Road-South Street intersection.
Additionally the council approved a resolution authorizing the installation of a solar powered pedestrian crossing signal at Mountain Avenue and Maple Street. Mayor Al Morgan explained that the signal will be installed by Union County, but the borough will be responsible for maintaining it.
Furthermore the council approved a 27-month recycling service contract with Giordano Company, Inc. of Newark. The contract period is in effect Oct. 1, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2020 for a total cost of $666,250.00. Councilman Gary Kapner noted that Giordano Company, Inc. was the only bidder. Borough Administrator Doug Marvin explained that the contract was achieved as a result of vigorous negotiations.
The next council meeting will take place on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
