NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- A squid/octopus, monsters of all sizes and shapes, more than one princess, a queen, a space ship, and even a baby shark appeared Saturday evening at Centennial Park - and those were just a few of the folks who came out to have a good time.

On Academy Street, several vehicles transformed their trunks into spooky places offering treats -- one even looked like a giant frog! Not only did they offer treats, one offered games, including pumpkin bowling - with the toilet paper "pins." Rain the previous weekend canceled the annual Trunk or Treat event and it was rescheduled so it coincided with the annual Carved Pumpkin Contest at Centennial Park.

Decorating Centennial Park were more than 20 carved pumpkins, some scary, some funny, others beautiful.  Whatever the subject, all of them were creative! Crowds of adults and kids checked out the pumpkins both before and after the judging and everyone had a favorite.

Sponsoring the two events were the New Providence PBA, New Providence Lions Club and Municipal Alliance. Christine Morgan called it " a GREAT night." She added it "could not have been possible without our generous volunteers, especially Capt. Theresa Gazaway,  and Police Officers Nicholas Guerriero, Carmine Boccellari  and Lt. Steven Drown."

Members of the Lions provided donuts, popcorn, cider and hot chocolate to all. There were still doing a brisk business long after the winners of the Carved Pumpkin Contest were announced.
