NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred early Sunday morning on Route 22 between North Drive and Watchung Avenue, according to Police Chief William Parenti.

Police say Jason A. Kohl, 48, a Plainfield resident, was struck by a car and suffered fatal injuries, according to Parenti, who said Kohl had been traveling west on the highway when he was struck by a vehicle also traveling westbound.

In addition to police, the North Plainfield Fire Department and JFK Paramedics responded.

Parenti identified the driver of the car as George Gabienu, 38, of Somerville.

The North Plainfield Police Department, in conjunction with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate the incident.
