SUMMIT, NJ - A single-car accident in the CVS Pharmacy parking lot on the morning of April 11 has claimed the life of a 73-year-old New Providence resident. The deceased male, identified as Robert M. Davis, was the driver -- and the lone occupant -- in the vehicle.

According to the Summit Police Department, at approximately 10:22 a.m., a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze was exiting the DeForest Avenue municipal parking lot #1 when the vehicle suddenly accelerated,  traveling north across DeForest Avenue into the CVS Pharmacy parking lot, crashing head-on into a wall located on the north end of the lot.

The driver was transported by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad to Morristown Medical Center and was later pronounced dead.

Authorities reported no other injuries or property damage. The accident is currently under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
