NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- Four players scored in double figures and the New Providence boys basketball team registered a 76-71 upset victory over Oratory Tuesday night.
Senior point guard Sean Dillon scored 24 points, handed out 12 assists and came up with five steals for the Pioneers (4-12), who won their second game in a row after defeating Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Saturday in Dillon's first game back from an injury that sidelined him for more than two weeks.
Junior center Carsten Schumm finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Pioneers, who led, 33-28, at halftime. Oratory is 9-6.
Tim Walsh scored 16 points and Nick Bisaccia totaled 11 points, six rebounds and six assists in the victory, which likely secured New Providence a berth in the Section 2, Group 1 state tournament which it won last year. The tournament begins next month.
