NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- The New Providence boys soccer team opened play in the Section 2, Group 1 tournament with a 3-0 victory over Weehawken in the first round on Tuesday.

Christian Muller, Brandon Ng and Mark Elek each scored a goal for the Pioneers (8-10), who built on a 1-0 halftime lead.

Ian Landsittel and Youssef Ezzeldin each assisted on one goal for New Providence, which outshot Weehawken, 14-1. Miguel Garcia saved the only Weehawken shot he faced all game.

Sixth-seeded New Providence will play on the road against third-seeded Technology of Newark in the quarterfinal round on Friday.
