CLARK, NJ -- The New Providence boys soccer team won what turned out to be a shooting contest with A.L. Johnson for its first victory of the season, 5-4, on Wednesday.

Youssef Ezzeldin scored three goals for the Pioneers (1-2), who opened a 3-0 lead by halftime before the Crusaders stormed back with four goals in the second half.

Mark Elek finished with one goal and two assists for New Providence. Christian Caburis also connected for one goal in the victory. Jake Ponte assisted on one of the Pioneers' goals.

Miguel Garcia made 12 saves for New Providence, which had opened the season with losses to Union and Dayton last week. The Pioneers will attempt to even their record when they host Linden on Thursday.
