MANVILLE, NJ -- The New Providence football team scored 20 unanswered points in the third quarter to pull away from a six-point halftime lead en route to a 47-21 victory over Manville Thursday night.

Sophomore halfback Charlie Barth rushed for 205 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries for the Pioneers (3-1), whose 20-0 splurge in the third quarter gave them a 40-14 lead.

Senior quarterback Owen Kovacs rushed for 119 yards and two TDs on 10 carries and passed for 58 yards and a TD on five completions in seven attempts.

Marcello Boccellari gained 50 yards and a TD on four carries and Aidan Donnelly caught three passes for 37 yards and a TD for New Providence.

Kovacs’ 12-yard TD run in the third quarter gave the Pioneers a 26-14 lead. Barth, who earlier had a 76-yard run, scored on a 49-yard run in the third period for a 33-14 lead. Kovacs’ 18-yard TD pass to Donnelly was the third score of the third quarter for the winners.
