NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- The New Providence football team scored one touchdown in each quarter and came away with a 26-7 victory over A.L. Johnson on Friday night.
The Pioneers (6-1) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when senior quarterback Owen Kovacs sprinted in from the 6-yard line and also kicked the extra point.
Kovacs scored the second New Providence TD, as well, on an 8-yard run in the second quarter as the Pioneers took a 13-0 lead into the locker room.
In the third quarter, sophomore halfback Charlie Barth scampered 32 yards for a TD that extended the New Providence advantage to 19-0. Barth also scored the Pioneers' final TD on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter. Brandon Mora's conversion run accounted for New Providence's final points.
New Providence will play Brearley in Kenilworth next Friday night with the championship of their division of the Mid-State 38 on the line.
