HILLSBOROUGH, NJ -- The New Providence girls basketball team rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Hillsborough, 46-42, in its last regular season game before the state tournament begins.

Freshman guard Meghan Lamanna scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and made three steals for the Pioneers (23-3), who trailed, 24-15, at the half. New Providence outscored Hillsborough, 22-10, in the third quarter to take a one-point lead.

Kaitlyn Cumiskey finished with nine points and six assists, Amy Maurer also scored nine points and Grace Kelly had six points, four rebounds and four steals in the victory.

Since losing to Gov. Livingston in the Union County Tournament quarterfinals, New Providence has beaten GL (in a regular-season game) and Hillsborough to close out its regular-season slate. The Pioneers will open play in the Section 1, Group 1 state tournament Monday at home against Palisades Park.
