NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- The New Providence girls basketball team's undefeated status was threatened a couple of times this week, never more severely than by Oak Knoll on Saturday.
Oak Knoll built a 14-point lead in shutting the Pioneers out in the first quarter, then New Providence rallied back from an 11-point deficit after three quarters for a 41-40 victory Saturday afternoon.
Amy Maurer finished with 10 points and two assists for New Providence (13-0), which outscored Oak Knoll, 18-6, in the fourth quarter. Lindsay Kinum had nine points, five rebounds and two steals, and Kaitlyn Cumiskey scored eight points for the Pioneers.
Paige Morton led Oak Knoll with 20 points and 14 rebounds and Greta Criqui had 11 points and four assists in a losing cause.
On Thursday, Summit took New Providence to overtime before the Pioneers won, 53-49. New Providence also was tested in a 51-47 victory over Union Catholic on Tuesday.
