NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- The New Providence girls soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Brearley on Senior Day Monday afternoon.

New Providence trailed, 1-0, at halftime before senior midfielder Sophia Mariniello scored 16 minutes into the second half to tie the game, 1-1. The two teams played two scoreless overtime periods.

Freshman goalkeeper Carleigh Robertson saved two shots. New Providence (4-2-2) outscored Brearley, 11-3. Brearley's record is 6-1-1.

"We played very well, and overall it was a very hard fought intense game," New Providence head coach Scott Murphy said. "We had some opportunities in the second half and overtime but could not find the second goal."

Before the game, New Providence honored its senior members of the team: Alexa Boyle, Lauren Byrnes, Brielle DeBarros, Juliana DeGeorge, Maddy Engelbrechtsen, Aisling Kruger, Sophia Mariniello and Paola Salazar.
