NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- This would have been senior outfielder Hanna Giedraitis' fourth season with the Pioneer varsity softball team.

"Hanna has grown so much as a player in four years that she went from a timid freshman to a leader in the outfield," said New Providence softball coach Jill Fischman. "She will always put the team first. When we were struggling with injuries we asked Hanna to play infield- something she has never done. She said sure with a nervous smile, but did it because she knew that is what the team needed that game. Her leadership skills came naturally and I can’t wait to see her excel in all her future endeavors."

A favorite high school highlight for Hanna was, "definitely the time my teammates threw a surprise birthday party for my coach!"

"Wearing the NP uniform means representing my town as a proud pioneer," said Hanna. "It also means I am part of a team that I love and respect. When we all wear the uniform we stand together."

New Providence head softball coach Jill Fischman had this to say to her senior class: "These seven young ladies have been a pleasure to coach over the past four years, and we are disappointed we didn’t get to experience their senior season together. I don’t think I have coached a group that gives back to their community more than this senior class. They are all extremely unselfish, hardworking and trustworthy. They truly are the personality of our team and have bonded this group together. They are great role models, leaving a lasting legacy for the younger generation of New Providence Pioneers. We will miss them greatly."

TAPinto: How are you doing during this period of isolation?

Hanna: I’m hanging in there, trying to stay active. It is really hard because I feel like I’m missing out on so much but it’s comforting to know I’m not alone.

TAPinto: What will the first thing you do once restrictions are lifted?

Hanna: I will get a chipotle burrito and hug my friends. I will also hopefully visit my teachers and coaches so I can thank them for making me who I am today.
