UNION, NJ - Governor Livingston ice hockey fell to Millburn on its senior night on Friday night, January 10, by a final score of 4-1. The Highlanders hung tight in the defensive matchup, but a third period surge secured a win for the Millers.
Before the game, GL honored its seven senior players: Kyle Cook, Mat Katz, Jeremy Malave, Patrick Murphy, Conor Pierce, Alex Raimi, and Dan Vislocky.
The game started off slow, with both defenses limiting scoring chances and both goalies blocking the few shot attempts. However, Millburn broke the zero-zero tie with just under six minutes to go in the first period, and would hold a 1-0 lead into first intermission.
The score would remain the same for most of the second period, until GL converted on a power play with under a minute to play. Freshman Brian Kramer found junior Jack Norton for the score, knotting the score at one.
Halfway through the third period, Millburn found the back of the net on a power play to take a one goal lead. A little over four minutes later, it would score again, giving the Millers a two goal advantage. With 1:10 left in the game, Millburn would add on to its lead on another power play score to extend its lead to 4-1, which would hold up as the final of the game.
GL moved to 6-6-1 on the year, and after a tough loss to Kelly division rival Oratory Prep (3-2) on Sunday night, holds a 6-7-1 record. The Highlanders are back in action on Monday against rival Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
