NEWARK, NJ - Meeting dates for the city council, planning board, zoning board and more have been released for 2019.

The calendar for these meetings mostly encompasses regularly scheduled dates. Notice of special meetings -- those that are held outside of regularly scheduled ones -- may be found on the New Jersey Press Association's database.

The state’s Open Public Meetings Act mandates that government agencies must give at least 48-hours notice of meetings. Those notices are generally required to be posted in at least one public place reserved for similar announcements and sent to at least two newspapers.

Government agencies are also required to release a meeting schedule within seven days of a reorganization meeting, or no later than Jan. 10.

The Newark Board of Education's schedule for the 2018-2019 school year was approved last year and may be viewed online.
