NEWARK, NJ - So far, 11 potential candidates have petitioned to run for three Newark Board of Education seats in the April 16 election.

Candidates have until March 4 to amend a defective petition or withdraw from the election, according to a board of education official.

Incumbents Leah Owens and Tave Padilla are looking to hold their seats. Kim Gaddy, another incumbent, does not appear on the list of potential candidates so far.

Last year, 13 candidates ran. Board members serve an unpaid, three-year term.
