Generra Rodriguez, a graduate of KIPP New Jersey schools, was selected to participate in KIPP’s national Alumni Leadership Accelerator program, a yearlong fellowship for KIPP alumni leaders in their 20s and 30s.

Generra, who started attending KIPP as a fifth grader at TEAM Academy, is among 23 KIPP alumni nationwide who were selected as fellows this year, chosen from a competitive pool of over 100 applicants. KIPP partners with Management Leadership for Tomorrow to deliver the program.

The Accelerator, now in its fourth year, aims to support KIPP alumni in reaching top positions of leadership and decision-making at the local, state and national levels.

Selected fellows receive 12 hours of personalized, executive leadership coaching; attend the Aspen Ideas Festival; have access to networking and skill building opportunities; and join a tight-knit cohort of peers who graduated from KIPP schools across the country.

Fellows in this year’s cohort attended KIPP schools in 10 different communities – Texas, Eastern North Carolina, Southern California, New York, New Jersey, Delta, Atlanta and Philadelphia – and represent an array of career fields including law, finance, technology, marketing, education, health, public service and the arts.

“At KIPP, we are committed to helping our alumni succeed in their chosen fields after they graduate from our schools,” said Rich Buery, KIPP’s chief of Policy and Public Affairs. “We are proud to be a part of Generra’s journey as a rising leader of tomorrow.”

Applicants were selected as fellows based on their achievements, leadership experience and vision for impact.

Generra, a clerk for the Newark Board of Education, has acted as a community outreach specialist, operations coordinator for data management, enrollment specialist, and social media manager for the organization.

Using her skills learned over the years, Generra has enrolled thousands of students in free full day pre-k and helped many more parents find where their students educational start will be.

Upon completion of her degree program, she said she hopes to leverage her skills and educational background into a network administration and security role, going back to school districts to show them the best way to ensure student data and demographics are protected from potential threats all while being an amazing mother to her son, a current KIPP student himself.

"We are so proud of Generra and delighted to support her in her endeavors," said Ryan Hill, founder and CEO of KIPP New Jersey. "She is incredibly dedicated and commits herself to everything she takes on. Generra is an ideal ambassador for Newark; smart, strong, passionate and ready to take on the world."
