NEWARK, NJ -  – Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s 8th Annual #24HrsOfPeace, event beginning tonight will impact traffic in the city's South Ward. Drivers are advised to plan alternative routes.

The event, which promotes community-building and advocates for a violence-free city, begins today at 6 p.m. and ends tomorrow, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m.

The following streets will be closed starting at noon today to 8 p.m. tomorrow:

  • Lyons Avenue from Clinton Place to Leslie Street
  • Willoughby Street from Lyons Avenue to Shaw Avenue
  • Dewey Street from Lyons Avenue to Shaw Avenue
  • Hobson Street from Lyons Avenue to Shaw Avenue
  • Aldine Street from Forest Place to Weequahic Avenue

“We are coming up with a plan to minimize the impact on the area for residents and businesses, but I wanted to get the advance word out that there will be some road closures,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. “We will do our very best to make sure things run smoothly and inconveniences are minimal.”
