NEWARK, NJ - Saint Vincent Academy, Newark’s only Catholic college-preparatory high school exclusively for young women, held commencement exercises on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018.

All 63 members of the class of 2018 will attend a wide range of in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities.  Three quarters of our graduates will go to New Jersey colleges.  About half of our graduates will attend private colleges while the other half will attend public colleges located as far north as Massachusetts and as far south as Virginia.  The class of 2018 have been awarded over $14 million dollars in merit-based awards; this figure does not include need-based grants.

Following welcoming remarks from Sister June Favata, SVA’s Administrative Director, class salutatorian Solcyré Burga offered an invocation and Ann-Marsha Alexis delivered the valedictory address. Ann-Marsha is headed for Wellesley College while Solcyré will attend Rutgers University-Newark. Berklee College of Music, the College of Saint Elizabeth, Drew University, Montclair State University, NJIT, NYU, Ramapo College and Rutgers University are among our graduates’ final choices.



Saint Vincent Academy, founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth in 1869, is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for young women of Greater Newark. Our students reflect a variety of cultural and racial heritages and many of our students’ families face economic challenges.
