NEWARK, NJ — The New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center, Goya and PSE&G are collaborating to stage a Gift of Giving 2020 Holiday Drive, which will benefit  Jersey Cares, the Believe in Newark Foundation and Newark Working Kitchens.
From Tuesday, Dec. 1 to Monday, Dec. 14, the partners will collect donations that will then be redistributed to the beneficiaries. The three nonprofits will use the funds to provide coats, meals and toys across Newark.
“On and off the ice, Newark is our home, and our commitment to the community continues to be of the utmost importance,” said Jake Reynolds, President of the New Jersey Devils. “We realized how instrumental Devils’ fans have been in contributing to the Newark community throughout the years, and we wanted to keep the initiative alive through our online Gift of Giving 2020 Holiday Drive.”

The efforts of the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center have resulted in donations of more than 5,500 coats, 13,500 toys and 40,000 meals to the Newark community in the past two years. The Jersey Cares Coat Drive, now in its 24th season, has worked to put gently-used coats on the backs of Newarkers in need.
NWK has established itself as a tour-d e-force of hunger and small business relief, activating Newark restaurants impacted by COVID-19 to package and deliver more than 500,000 meals for seniors, low-income families and the homeless. Believe in Newark serves as an intermediary for resources, technical assistance and support for the nonprofit community and residents of Newark.

This year, proceeds will be split equally among the three philanthropic groups. Toys will be distributed at a December event in cooperation with the City of Newark.
“This holiday season is bittersweet for many families,” said Rafael Toro, director of public relations for Goya Foods. “We know that our community is struggling due to the pandemic, and the best thing we can do to help is to donate food. Thanks to the help of our partners and many organizations like Prudential Center, we are able to provide food for hundreds of families in New Jersey."
