NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – We now know that the Rutgers football team is scheduled to begin its season on Sept. 5, 2020, by hosting Nebraska. Whether the Scarlet Knights are able to play that game might be another question.
According to the schedule released by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday morning, Rutgers will then play at Ohio State and Maryland and then host Michigan and Penn State before its first open week.
Coach Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights will then play at Purdue and Michigan State, then host Indiana and Illinois.
After a second open week, Rutgers is scheduled to end its season on Nov. 21 against Wisconsin.
How the season will play out is unclear after 28 players have tested positive for COVID-19, according to an nj.com report.
The outbreak spread to several staff members, prompting the university to suspend all team activities and quarantine the team.
According to the published report, several university athletes attended an on-campus party, which officials said on July 29 that they believe was the source of the outbreak. Up until that point, only 15 players had tested positive.
