NEWARK, NJ — A new collaboration between United Way of Greater Newark and Investors Bank is gearing up to collect and match donations for UWGN’s Community COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Forged in preparation for Giving Tuesday, the fund’s proceeds go directly to Newark residents who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic. Investors Bank will match all donations dollar for dollar between Nov. 24 and Dec. 4.
“The pandemic continues to have detrimental impacts on our hard-working residents in Greater Newark. For Giving Tuesday this year, we’re asking everyone who is able to donate — no matter how big or small — and help us fundraise to support our COVID-19 relief efforts,” said Catherine Wilson, president & CEO of United Way of Greater Newark. “Every dollar counts, and our partnership with Investors Bank means each dollar will go even further. We’re so grateful to them for their commitment and to everyone else who is offering their support during this difficult time.”
Giving Tuesday is an international day of charitable giving that takes place each year on Dec.1. At the onset of the public health crisis, UWGN established the COVID-19 Fund with more than $4 million in fundraising for local community members, organizations and small businesses. The Parent Exchange Program, which collects baby items for parents, and the Small Business Grant Program were also spurred by UWGN’s humanitarian efforts.
“We are honored to join with the United Way of Greater Newark by supporting its Giving Tuesday fundraising program,” said Aturo Cousar, assistant vice president and manager of Investors Bank’s Sanford Avenue branch. “The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the lives of our clients and too many households in nearby neighborhoods. Investors is matching the contributions made by UWGN’s donors, and our branch is making a special $1,500 donation to help brighten the holidays for all those neighbors who need a helping hand now.”
