Mother Goose is an excellent way to promote literacy among our preschool-aged patrons. Picture books, flannel board stories, songs and puppets are used to build upon children’s natural enthusiasm for books and reading. Each session will end with a simple art experience for little ones. Please note that registration is required for each individual storytime.

Foxes Herald Nature’s Resurgence in Suburban New Jersey

For most of my life the only time I saw a red fox it was probably a raccoon. They have those same glow-in-the-headlights silvery eyes.

But a few years ago, I began to see a once-rare piece of roadkill with greater frequency. No matter how flattened the rest of the fox was, it’s bushy-tail would blow around in the highway draft of cars and trucks as they raced past.

I assumed the ...

New Jersey Date Night: Ice Cream, You Smile

May 18, 2019

New Jersey Date Night is a series on NJ Flavor by relationship writer Craig Rogers.

Frankie and Annette went on one, as did Gidget and Moondoggie. Archie was known to enjoy one with Betty and sometimes with Veronica, too.  Even Samantha and both Darrins got into the act. If we take a page from the retro dating handbook, you might just want to join the crowd and take your sweetie on ...

Jersey Shore Outdoors: LBI Fishing Update by Jim Hutchinson Sr.

May 6, 2019

The poor weather we have been experiencing in the Long Beach Island area has put a damper on fishing

and prevented me from knowing just how many fish there are in our area. However, I do have some

firsthand reports that sound promising.

The folks at Scott’s Bait and Tackle tell me the action for stripers and black drum from land in the back of

Great Bay is just about ...

Most CPAs Are Telling Clients to Relocate Out of New Jersey... Here’s How We Can Change That

May 6, 2019

Dear Editor:

Certified public accountants often hear objections about New Jersey’s high taxes from clients who are looking to leave New Jersey — and this past tax season was no exception, according to members of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA). And a Rutgers-Eagleton poll done in collaboration with the New Jersey Business & Industry ...

What a Special Needs Mom Wants for Mother's Day

May 6, 2019

Mother’s Day is kind of a misnomer, especially if you are the mom of a special needs child. The cards and presents last about 30 seconds, no one knows how to make pancakes, your “day off” is only until about 11:00 when you have to go downstairs and clean up the disaster in the kitchen and the rest of the day is spent with the same whining, crying and calling “Mommy, ...
