NEWARK, NJ - One lane in each direction on Route 22 in Newark is closed for emergency repairs because of loose concrete from a railroad overpass, the state Department of Transportation said.
Rt 22 both directions left lane closed near Weequahic Park in Newark for emergency repairs. Use caution, slow down and expect delays— NJDOT (@NJDOT_info) March 20, 2019
The lanes will be closed until further notice for the repairs, NJDOT said. At least one lane in each direction will remain open while the work is taking place, but motorists should expect delays.
The loose concrete caused lane closures since last night near milepost 58.5, the agency said. An NJDOT contractor began working yesterday and will continue to remove loose concrete to repair the overpass, the agency said.
Motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes too. Message signs will also give drivers advanced warning of traffic patterns in the area.
