Returning to the Hampton Classic for the 13th year is the Long Island Horse Show Series for Riders with Disabilities (LIHSSRD) Finals, sponsored by BNB. Classes begin at 10 a.m. in Jumper Ring 2. The LIHSSRD Finals are open to qualifying adult and junior riders from the 2018 Show Series with a documented disability. Three divisions will be included — one for riders requiring the assistance of a leader, one for riders requiring a spotter at the beginner independent level, and one for more advanced independent riders. The most advanced competitors in the Finals will have the opportunity to jump as part of the testing.

Riders will be judged on their performance during each class. Judging criteria consists of rider balance, seat, use of aids, horsemanship, control of horse, ring etiquette, safety, sportsman-like conduct, suitability of the horse/rider match and the position of the rider. Judges may ask for posting trot, sitting trot, and two point position and all USEF beginner tests. Riders who have competed in recognized divisions are ineligible.

“Monday at the Hampton Classic is a particularly special day for us,” said Shanette Cohen, Executive Director of the Hampton Classic. “Our Adoption & Animal Welfare Day is near-and-dear to our hearts. Pairing homeless animals with new families is an absolute delight and everyone benefits. We are also proud to host the LIHSSRD Finals. It’s an amazing opportunity for riders with disabilities to compete at the same venue as many Olympic veterans. We thank BNB for its continued support and sponsorship of this special event.”
