Scott Lurker, resident of Newton, is officially announcing his candidacy in a bid for one of two Newton Town Council seats in the November 2020 election.

Lurker is a proud New Jersey native, who put down roots in Newton when he moved here around six years ago and then subsequently purchased a home with his wife and three daughters a few years later.  Prior to moving to Newton, Lurker dedicated his life in service to our country in the United States Army.

"I enlisted shortly after September 11th, 2001 to serve my country in a combat arms specialty with the 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, KS," he explains, "I was deployed in Ramadi and Fallujah as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a machine gunner."

Following his service, Lurker enrolled in college, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University in New Brunswick with a Bachelor's Degree in History and Philosophy.  He also earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Brookdale Community College.  He's currently employed at Lion Technology, Inc, in Sparta as a regulatory compliance training consultant.

Lurker has a proven track record in leadership positions, both in the Army and in his personal and professional life and is honored to extend his leadership success to his hometown of Newton.  He has considered giving back to his local community through service, and was waiting for the right moment to make his commitment to Newton. "Hearing Teddy Sibblies announce his candidacy in June inspired me to want to do the same. Newton deserves Council Members who are dedicated to the community, concerned about the future and committed to making it better," he states.

Teddy and Scott are looking forward to working together to move Newton forward in 2020. For more information, email newtonforward2020@gmail.com or visit www.facebook.com/Sibblies-Lurker-for-Newton-2020-114260517026997
