NEWTON, NJ—In a rematch game unlike any other, the Newton Braves and the Kittatinny Cougars played against each other in an afternoon game on Saturday, October 26 with the Braves taking the win 26-0.
Newton and Kittatinny, longtime rivals, played against each other in the championship game of the North 1, Group 2 division last year. Kittatinny had come out on top.
This time though, the Braves were ready for victory and shut out the Cougars. Along with the rights to call themselves the rival champions, Newton won the Rival Cup trophy which was created by the Newton Moose Lodge and clinched their third straight division title.
Jack Young led Newton with 182 yards in the air on 10 completions and 77 yards on the ground. Braydon Nolan had 12 tackles for Newton.
On just two catches Ryan Papas went 72 yards. Young connected with Aaron Fantasia four times for 52 yards. Peyton Nolan moved the ball 51 yards on a Young pass, he moved 61 yards on 16 carries, good for two trips to the endzone.
Julian Sibblies had one off a 49-yard run. Dylan Bailey scored one off a five-yard pass from Young, to kick off the game.
The Newton High School football team which is currently 6-2 overall, will play away against Madison on Saturday, November 2 beginning at 2 p.m.
