SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Cpl Brian Hassloch stopped a 2003 Honda on August 7 at approximately 11:53 p.m. because he saw the vehicle being driven without the headlights on as it drove through White Deer Plaza.

Cpl Hassloch pulled the car over on East Shore Trail and approached the driver Marko A Cuesta, explaining why he was stopped.  The 22 year-old Sparta resident told the officer that his driver’s license was in the trunk of the car. 

As Cuesta was getting the license from a backpack in the trunk Cpl Hassloch saw a plastic bag containing marijuana.  When Cpl Hassloch questioned him, Cuesta handed over the marijuana and a marijuana pipe as well.

Cuesta was arrested and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters where he was processed.  He was charged criminally with Possession of Under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was also give motor vehicle summonses for Maintenance of Lamps, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle. 

Cuesta was released pending a court date.

These criminal charges are mere accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
