SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta Police Officer patrolling Station Park made a drug arrest after investigating an unauthorized car parked in a handicapped spot. 

On August 26 just after 3:30 p.m. Cpl Brian Hassloch observed a 2014 Chevy in the rear parking lot parked in a handicapped spot without a placard.  Cpl Hassloch approached the vehicle and detected the smell of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment.

He spoke to the driver 37 year-old Jassan B Stoeckel and got permission to search the vehicle.

Cpl Hassloch found several drug paraphernalia items and a vitamin bottle containing marijuana, according to a statement from the Sparta police.  The items were seized as evidence.  Stoeckel was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Stoeckel was criminally charged with Possession of Under 50 Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He also received motor vehicle summonses for a Handicapped Parking violation, Unapproved Equipment, Obstructed View and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle. 

He was released pending a court date.
