NEWTON, NJ—With the announcement of the start of Fall Sports to begin on September 14, comes the realization that a portion of the Fall season has been missed. Newton High School seniors who play a fall sport have been invited to submit information about how COVID-19 has affected them during their final season of the sport.

This is the sixth installment of a multipart spotlight article. Luke Bandel is a senior who plays defense on the Newton High School boys soccer team.

“It was strange to start soccer so late in the summer and to have so many restrictions," Bandel said, "but it was great to be back on the field.”

Bandel talks about what his experience has been like playing during the final fall season in soccer during the pandemic.

“It obviously has not been the same as a regular season, as our games would have started already, but our team has had positive vibes, and we are all ready to play another season,” Bandel said.

The Newton High School boys soccer team will have their first game on Thursday, October 1 away against Wallkill Valley beginning at 4 p.m.
