SPARTA, N J – A long way from home, a Florida man faces charges of driving while intoxicated in Sparta. On August 27 at nearly 1 a.m. Sparta Cpl. Frank Schomp watched Robert Pierre driving “well below the speed limit,” and weaving across the road, according to police.
Schomp stopped the 2009 Nissan on Woodport Road and suspected the 28-year-old Lake Mary resident was under the influence of alcohol. The investigation was then turned over to Police Officer Tim Lynott, police said.
Lynott had Pierre perform field sobriety tests. Pierre was then taken into custody for DWI and brought to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for breath testing and processing, police said.
Pierre was charged with DWI, careless driving and failure to keep right. He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
