There's so much to see and do at the New Jersey State Fair in Sussex County!

Starting Friday, August 4th and running for 10 days, the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm & Horse Show offers a world of fun and family entertainment!

As always, there’ll be carnival rides; loads of animals; great performances; and monster trucks. Here, Team Nest Builder shares some fair highlights you may NOT have heard of:

Friday, August 4th:  The New Jersey Herald debuts Dollar Day!  Guests can purchase admission, carnival rides and select food and drink items for only ONE DOLLAR! Friday night from 7pm-8:30 pm, enjoy Chick Singer Night (a battle of the bands for female singers).

Saturday, August 5th: Visit the Shotwell Spotlight Open House at the Sussex County 4-H Building from 11am-2pm to ask questions about 4-H activities and learn about membership.  The Battle of the Bands returns to the fair bringing talented local groups performing in the outdoor entertainment area for FREE!

Monday, August 7th:  Calling all fans of the Sussex County Miners! Head to the Ernie Kosa Sussex County Building from noon-3pm and participate in baseball activities and enjoy a meet-and-greet with the Miner’s mascot, Herbie.

Tuesday, August 8th:  In the Outdoor Entertainment Area, the ATV Big Air MX Show, a freestyle motocross/extreme sports thrill show that features freestyle ATV’s flying three-stories high, motorcycle backflips, and the Megajump BMX Team, performs two shows for Children’s Day.

Wednesday, August 9th:  It’s Health and Wellness day at the fair!  Try yoga or sample essential oils from 10am-2pm in the Performing Arts Tent.  Return to the tent at 7:30 pm to catch “The Amazing Kreskin”, a mentalist who’s performed on “The Ed Sullivan Show”!

Wednesday/Thursday, August 9th/10th: Cavallo Equestrian Arts, theatrical acrobatic equestrian performers, take the stage in the Outdoor Entertainment Area.

Friday/Saturday, August 11th/12th:  At 11 am and 4 pm, catch children’s author Billy Steers in the Snook Museum, reading, drawing and signing copies of his “Tractor Mac” books.  Guest in attendance Saturday can enter a raffle to win one of two copies of “Tractor Mac”--good luck!

Don’t miss the Dinosaurs Rock exhibit in the Family Entertainment Area, where guests touch fossils and examine dinosaur specimens in an interactive presentation that runs all 10 days.

Another permanent event, the Barnyard Cackle Review features a group of singing (yes, singing) roosters and hens--sure to be a hit with the younger crowd!

Getting overheated? Head to the new misting station outside the county building, or to the Farm Fun Building misting station.
