NEWTON, NJ—Newton High School girls basketball team’s head coach, Whitney Dugan will be hosting the second annual Lady Braves Basketball Camp this summer, this year with an added twist.
The camp will run from Monday, July 9 until Friday, July 13. It will be held at Newton High School.
“We are attempting to do two sessions so we can focus on age groups,” Dugan said. “The camp will offer an environment to learn the vital fundamentals for the game of basketball, while creating an enthusiasm for the sport.”
The first session is from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and will be for players in third grade through fifth grade. The second session, which will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. will be for sixth through eighth grade.
According to Dugan, campers will be able to gain knowledge only from the Lady Braves coaching staff, but the players currently on the Lady Braves high school team.
Those who attend the camp will be able to work on individual skills, as well as learn how to be a team player.
Points of emphasis in the camp include the following:
- Moving without the ball
- Decision making skills
- Game like scenarios
- Team work
If players are in third through fifth grade, the week camp is offered for $125, while grades sixth through either players will cost $150 for the week.
