NEWTON, NJ—Despite the rainy weather, Newton beat Vernon, 5-2, when they played them on Newton’s home turf on Wednesday, October 28.
Natalie Rivas led the Lady Braves in goals, scoring three. She was followed by Kate Barbato and Brittany Schumann, who each scored one goal. Assists were made by Rivas, Nicole Rizzo, and Emily Weiss.
Newton outshot Vernon, 21-3. Amanda Alessandra, Newton’s goalie, had one save.
“It was very difficult to play and move the ball in the rain. The team did a great job of rising above the difficult playing conditions and coming up with the win.” said Coach Lisa Bechtel.
The Lady Braves’ record is now 15-1-2. The girls will play their first game of states during the second round, after having a bye-week. They will play Lenape at 1 p.m. on Newton’s turf field on Friday, October 30.
