NEWTON, NJ—Merriam Avenue Elementary school named Mariu Morton-Comer as the Governor’s Educator of the Year for the 2021 school year.

According to Principal Kevin Stanton, Comer has “gone above and beyond to support our Spanish-speaking families during this difficult time.”

Stanton also noted that Comer is “always available to help students and their parents navigate the challenges of online learning and any other challenges they may face.”

Their awards were given remotely due to the school being fully remote during the COVID-19 pandemic.
