NEWTON, NJ—A Hopatcong woman is facing DWI charges after a one car accident near Horton pond.  The Newton Police responded to a call made by the Sussex County Community College security guard after a 2012 Toyota Camry hit a guard rail.

When they got to the scene of the accident Newton Police found the car driven by Kathleen Ely, 28, had significant front end damage from the collision.  Ely had cuts on her face from the accident.

Ely was taken to Newton Medical Center by Newton First Aid squad before being treated and released.  Police found Ely to be intoxicated when she crashed.

Ely was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and careless driving.  She was released pending a May 23 court date.
