NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Police Department responded to a Center Street residence for a report of an unresponsive male.

Police report that on Tuesday, Feb 8 when they arrived at the scene, officers observed a male, 51, to be unconscious and in respiratory arrest in the bathroom of the apartment. It was around 4:40 p.m.

He displayed signs and symptoms that were consistent with a heroin overdose.

Responding officers administered Narcan and performed rescue breathing, which brought the man back to consciousness.

He was transported to the Newton Medical Center by Newton First Aid Squad.

Investigating Officers were Ptl. Daniel Finkle, Sgt. Frank Philhower, and Ptl. Mahir Kaylani.
