NEWTON, NJ—People were shoulder to shoulder on Thursday in the new shop on Spring Street in Newton. ReCollectables had its Grand Opening on May 4 also known as Star Wars Day, at 10 a.m.
“We chose Newton for that Main Street appeal that is slowly coming back,” Owner Ryan Stapel said.”I feel we could really get up to even par with some of the other artisan walkable streets like in Warwick.”
The store will be selling used and new collectables and oddities, “biker and hippie stuff.”
“The weirder the better is what we are looking for, from Antler Telephones to Star Wars Memorabilia,” Stapel said.
A full size arcade game with 60 classic game plays for a quarter is in the store, as well as old Atari and Coleco Vision Systems and games.
Comics and baseball memorabilia will be being added soon. The shop has custom made to order jewelry, some chainmail necklaces and bowties. They do some consignment and get some of their items from auctions. They will soon be offering customers online purchasing as well.
ReCollectables, at 194 Spring Street will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday Ryan and his wife Jacky will stay open until 9 p.m. “or later” especially on nights when there are concerts and shows at the Newton theater down the street.
"We wanted to do something different," Stapel said.
