New York Man Faces DWI Charges After Driving without Headlights

SPARTA, NJ -  A man from Long Island was stopped by Sparta police after being seen driving without headlights in White Deer Plaza.  On July 30 Sparta Police Cpl Marc Rubino went to the plaza after the dispatch received a call about a 2009 Nissan XTerra driving without its lights on, according to police.

When he arrived, Rubino saw the vehicle driving along West Shore Trail.  After watching  the Nissan cross the solid yellow line, Rubino pulled the car over.  According to police the driver Gregory Russ , 46, of Wantagh, NY appeared to be drunk when Rubino spoke with him.

Russ was given a series of field sobriety tests and then taken into custody.  Russ was transported to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing and breath testing, police report.

Russ was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and failure to produce documents.  He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
