NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Braves baseball team lost a 6-5 heartbreaket to Sparta on Wednesday, May 18.
Billy Carson started for the Braves, pitching a total of four innings. He struck out one, walked four, and allowed seven hits.
Relieving Carson was Gianni Pereira, who pitched the final three innings of the game. He struck out five Spartans, walked two and allowed six hits.
Carson got the only RBI for the Braves against Sparta. He went 2-for-4 while on the other side of the plate. Pereira went 0-for-2.
Luke Young, Aldo, Vallorosi, and Bobby Fehr, each went 1-for-4 while at bat. Young scored one run for the Braves and Vallorosi was walked once.
Jake Tarabokija and Cole Van Luvender each got no hits against Sparta’ spitcher. Tarabokija went 0-for-3, and Van Luvender went 0-for-1.
Michael Luzzi helped the Braves by scoring one run during his three at bats. He went 2-for-3. Scott Price also scored a run for Newton. He went 2-for-4, walking once.
Chase Cramer got one stolen base against Sparta on Wednesday. He went 3-for-4 and scored two runs for the Braves as well.
The Braves are 14-8 overall at this point in the season and are 7-1 in the league, leading the division.
