NEWTON, NJ—Michael Luzzi led the Braves to a 4-2 victory over Wallkill Valley when he hit a three run triple in the top of the seventh inning with two outs on the board.
Fifth-seeded Newton played against fourth-seeded Wallkill Valley in the quarterfinal round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament on Saturday, April 29, away and made a comeback to take the victory and advance to the semifinal round.
Chase Cramer, who scored one run for the Braves, went 2-for-3, while Billy Carsen went 1-for-4, driving in an RBI.
Starting on the mound for Newton was Alex Blanar, who threw 89 pitches in 6.1 innings. Blanar struck out four, walked one and allowed two runs on six hits, with two errors.
Closing out the game for the Braves was Scott Price, who allowed one hit and no runs and threw eight pitches in the two-thirds of an inning that he pitched.
The Newton High School baseball team advances to the semifinal round where they will play top-seeded Pope John, on Pope John’s field on Saturday, May 6.
