NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School baseball team claimed the 8-7 victory against Morris Hills Tuesday, when they played them away.
Leading the Braves in their tight win over Morris Hills was Luke Young, who drove in three runs, going 2-for-4.
Following closely behind Young were Michael Luzzi and Billy Carson, who each drove in two runs apiece.
Luzzi went 2-for-2, hitting a double and scoring twice. Carson went 1-for-4, scoring one, while Alex Blanar went 1-for-2, hitting a double and scoring one run.
The Braves had four pitchers throughout the game against Morris Hills; Gianni Pereira, Jason Leonardo, Scott Price, and Jake Tarabokija.
Pereira, who started for the Braves, threw 49 pitches in three innings and got the win. He struck out four, and allowed three runs on two hits with two errors.
Leonardo, who pitched 2.1 innings, had 62 pitches, one strike out and three walks. He allowed four runs on four hits with four errors.
Price pitched a third of an inning, throwing 17 pitches and striking out two players, while Tarabokija, who pitched one inning, walked two.
The Newton High School Braves are 11-1 overall and currently lead the NJAC-Freedom league, 2-0.
