NEWTON, NJ—As January came to an end, the Newton bowling team took on Vernon and Jefferson on January 25 and January 30.

Newton lost to Vernon 5-2. According to head coach John Zwitkowits “Newton took the first game 730 to 710 with Ben Austin bowling a 236 for his first game on his way to a 646 series”, Zwitkowits said.

“However, Vernon charged back to take the next two and the match. Michael Stefkovich was the high roller for Vernon with a game high of 209 and series high of 524”, Zwitkowits said.

Newton then went against Jefferson and unfortunately was shut out 7-0. “Nick Thies [Jefferson] bowled a 673 and Emma Thies [Jefferson] followed with a 657”, said Zwitkowits. “Ben Austin led the Braves with a 519.”

“Several Newton bowling members continue to work on their approach to the game,” Zwitkowits said. “They've made some great improvements, but as a whole, we need to be making our spares more consistently.”
