NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Boys Basketball team dominated over Boonton on Wednesday, Senior Night, when they played them home and won by 20, with a final score of 57-37.

Despite Boonton’s tight defense on Newton’s side of the court on the beginning of the game, the Braves still dominated in points, scoring 18 in the first quarter and 11 in the second. They went into halftime leading 29-16.

Jason Heter, one of the Braves’ lead scorer’s this season, contributed 26 points throughout the game against Boonton. He made 11 2-pointers and four foul shots.

Luke Young added seven points to the board, along with Charlie Maker and Collin Kelly who contributed six points each. Jaiden Elliot added five points, while Luismy Arias had four points, and Hunter Grave de Peralta had three.

Offensively, the Braves made 23 2-pointers, two 3-pointers, five foul shots, and had 14 assists, six of which were by Maker.

Defensively against Boonton, they had 19 rebounds; 11 of which were made by Heter, nine by Maker, eight steals, and four blocks.

The Newton High School Boys basketball team will start the 2017 NJSIAA North 1, Group 2 Tournament in the third-seed spot and play against 14-seeded Wallkill Valley on Monday, February 27.
